WTAJ: Gloria Gates CARE facility opens in Altoona for Medicaid patients

Dr. Zane Gates is finally seeing his dream come true. His new facility for Medicaid patients, Gloria Gates CARE, is now open in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The practice was inspired by his mother, Gloria Gates, who died too soon because of problems with the Medicaid system. Now, Dr. Gates is striving to make sure that no one else endures what his mother did.

“This is something that I started out of a van, taking care of patients in a free clinic. Now, they’re going to have a beautiful place to come, and we’re going to get everybody covered,” Gates said.

Gates is striving to get all Medicaid patients covered and Gloria Gates CARE is just the beginning. Gates and his team are on a mission to change the healthcare landscape and improve Medicaid health coverage and inequality.

With this program, Medicaid patients are assigned a personal CARE advocate who helps them with their medical plan as well as access to other direct services like food and transportation.

The Enhanced Primary CARE Center provides physical and mental healthcare services and a wide range diagnostic tests, screenings and laboratory services, all in one location.

With their million-member promise, Gloria Gates CARE is pledging to offer affordable coverage to 1 million Medicaid patients across the state of Pennsylvania.
